Pixton Debate: Language Correctness is Good
The English language has developed and endured for over 1,400 years, but what lasting affects have modern trends such as capricious slang, internet shorthand, and text messaging had on it? As thousands of new words and definitions of old terms born of these changes are added to the English dictionary, some express concern.
A common opinion is that the language is in a shameful state of decay, brought on by a general sense of apathy. Others argue that we’re simply experiencing the natural evolution of word use.
To encourage discussion and gain insight, we’ve created two “debate comics” about enforcing strict language correctness. In this comic, we present a popular argument in favor of enforcing strict “language correctness.”
Also see our other comic, illustrating a popular argument against strict language correctness.
